Teen Cola War, Review

admin | January 19, 2008

Thank you all for your hard work this past week.  I wanted to let you know that I am so thankful for all of you that put in the time and effort to invite your friends as well as those you didn’t even know.

I look forward to seeing what the Lord will do with the efforts that many have put in towards this past week.  But, I also wanted to encourage us not to stop there.  When I talked with many of your friends that came to “Cola Wars” they were excited about coming back to other activities.  Remember we have several coming up soon and I want to encourage you to remind them of those events.

I believe the Lord has shown us the potential of what being lights for Him can do.  I am excited about what might happen in the future and pray that you will be as well.  Thank you again for all your hard work.

Sunday School Lesson 1/20/07

admin |

This week we continue with our lesson on Christ and His work throughout His life here on earth. We will specifically deal with the interaction Christ had with His disciples while ministering here.

One of my favorite studies is that of the disciples. It is amazing to me how God can take completely different people and put them together to accomplish great things for Himself. Just take two of the disciples for example. James was a Zealot who wanted nothing more than to defeat the government control over his life. One of the people he would have hated more than anything was the tax collectors because they were the tools of the government to exact taxes from the people. James most likely would have been willing to kill those people because of his stance against them. And yet considering that Christ also called a disciple by the name of Levi (Matthew after his conversion) who was no other than a tax collector. God was able to put these two men together to accomplish His purpose. Just amazing.

Here are some questions to be thinking about as you prepare for Sunday School tomorrow.

  1. Can you name all twelve disciples?
  2. What was the common trade most of the disciples were involved with?
  3. What were some conditions of discipleship that Christ gave?
  4. Were there some secret disciples of Christ?

Let’s think about the cost and need of being a disciple of Christ. And ask yourself the question – Am I a disciple of Christ that is secretive or public, and what would Christ desire you to be?

Teen Cola Wars

admin | January 9, 2008

Hey all,

This next week should be a exciting week. I have been praying about it I would ask you to join me in praying about it as well. I stopped by someones house this week and invited a couple teens and they seemed to be excited about coming. Remember that we are having the Cola Wars on Thursday at 5:30 pm. This is a time not just for you to enjoy but most importantly a time for those who are not saved to hear and be shown from the Bible what God requires of us. Please pray about this coming week as well as invite those who might not know God (in a relationship) to come and enjoy the time together.

This past weeks Sunday School class was exciting to me. Many of you had questions and comments and that always makes the time together all the more enriching. Keep it up. Remember to fill in your testimonies on the testimonies page on the web. You can get there by clicking on the link on the front page or by clicking here.

Remember that Thursday Night is “Teen Open Time.” I look forward to hanging out with you and playing some games. See you there!

Sunday School Review 1/6/08

admin |

This past Sunday both the Senior and Junior High Sunday School classes were combined. We continued on with a study we have been working on with the Senior High on “The God Man.” Sunday’s specific area was John 3 and the story of Nicodemus.

In our class we discussed four specific areas within the story which were:

  • The Meeting with Nicodemus
  • Christ’s Explanation of the New Birth
  • Jesus’ teaching on the physical and spiritual birth
  • Who Jesus came to save

We discussed how Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews and a Pharasee and still did not understand what Jesus was talking about. We discovered several others scripture passages that showed us people who misunderstood Jesus. Nicodemus came to Jesus at night and we discussed possible reasons for the time he choose to visit Christ. We also compared the physical and spiritual birth as seen in the following chart.

Physical Birth

Spiritual Birth

A blood Relationship

Jesus shed His blood for us to give us a relationship with Him.

Begins our relationship with an earthly father

Begins our spiritual relationship with God the father.

The relationship with the father lasts forever.

Our relationship with God will last forever. – John 17:2-3

God give life to the child.

God is the one who gives us new life. – Romans 8:10

The child is given a name.

We have a new name – Christian – Acts 26:28 and I Pet. 4:16

The child is given milk until he can eat meat.

The new Christian needs the “milk of the Word” first. – Heb. 5:13 and I Peter 2:2

The birth of the child brings great joy.

There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels when someone is saved. – Luke 15:10

The child is given a new home.

Our eternal home is in heaven.

The parents are responsible to meet the needs of the child.

God will meet all of our needs. Phil. 4:19

Here are some questions to ask for this past weeks lesson.

  1. What are some of the other misunderstandings in the scriptures that were discussed in class on Sunday?
  2. How do you think Nicodemus knew so much about Jesus?
  3. How did Nicodemus’ actions show both cowardice and courage?
  4. In Luke 15 Jesus uses to illustrations to describe His desire to see people saved. What were those examples?

We applied Sunday’s lesson by sharing some testimonies in class. I also asked the teens to go to the website and share with me their personal testimonies by filling out the form online for that.To see that page click here! The testimonies will not show online, but this mainly for me to get to know the testimonies of the teens better.

If you would like to include your own testimony with the teens I encourage you to do so. I would love to read them. Please let me know if you have any questions about this weeks lesson.
